Open for Business...FINALLY!

When I said that we'd be launching the (much anticipated, long time coming, not sure if it was ever going to happen....) online shop in a week or so, I wasn't planning to drop off the map for over a month!

All of the work that went into the online store - which I started calling "data entry hell" - as well as the overall re-design - a big thank you to Fabulous K! - was a much longer process than we planned. But the end result is well worth it. What do you think? We're thrilled.

During my time underground, I took the kids down to Key West for a visit. This gave me a fantastic opportunity to visit the shop and take some pictures (not very good ones, with my iphone - but still...)

The rest of the trip was devoted to entertaining small children.

Thank god my parents have a pool!

I really love visiting Key West. I don't think I applied make up once (not conducive to hourly sunblock slatherings) or even attempted to blow dry my hair. Here is what I look like when I'm there:

Like I said, no make up, But I made up for it with EXTRA freckles and frizzy Florida hair (meaning my hair is frizzy in FL not that people in FL have frizzy hair!).

I'm already plotting my next trip back...perhaps without the kids! We'll see...

If you have this blog in your reader, please remember to update the feed. I'm no longer posting at the old blogspot. So change that to http://www.stylekeywestblog.com/

And drop by the online shop! I'd love to hear what you think.

A New Site and Some New Items!

Did you link here from stylekeywest.com today?

Well if you did, you will have seen that we have a new site coming soon! In fact, it should be live by April 8th.

The new site will include an online store, so anyone can visit us and do a little shopping, whether they're in Key West or Alaska. We're so excited about this new venture and we hope that you'll love our Key West inspired products as much as we do.

Here is a preview of what you'll find...

...And here are a few close up shots of some new pillows and mats we've started carrying in the shop (which you will also be able to purchase online):

I probably won't have time to post until the online shop is up and running. In the meantime...have a great weekend. Can't wait for the unveiling next week!

Blue as a Neutral

As you may have noticed - neutral colors aren't typically our thing.

But as we all know, it's a very popular trend right now and many of our customers are taking that direction in their own homes.

So we came up with a compromise: pale blue as a neutral.

And we actually rather like it. It isn't a complete departure from our own style and the use of blue offers a great compromise for couples with different preferences.

So often, couples come into the shop with contradictory requests. One wants comfortable and warm and the other wants clean and unfussy.

Blue is cool and works well with both beige and gray tones. But it is a color and with the right accents, can bring some character and depth to an otherwise monochromatic look.

Even a single client wielding a Fall/Winter copy of the Restoration Hardware catalog would probably appreciate the sweet little scene above.

What do you think? Do you think pale blues, yellows and pinks can be used as alternative neutrals?

Tis the Season

It's hard in Key West for Northerners like me to get into the Christmas spirit because the weather is so unlike the White Christmas we dream of. Strangely enough, the song I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas just came up on the CD Player! How's that for coincidence?

Anyway, Key West's weather and all the tropical foliage and colors make decorating for Christmas a challenge, especially in the shop. The traditional red and green seem too heavy for the light airy look we've got going here. So we've put together decorations to express the same feeling - big silver glass shells, mercury glass spiral drop ornaments, blue glass spirals, blue glass birds with feather tails, some painted tin birds with crystal drops, some pastel painted whimsical shapes of tin, all interlaced with aqua, lime, and coral net ribbon. And - voila.....Style Key West Christmas!

Merry Christmas to All,

Just in Time for Winter (in Key West): The Best All Natural Mosquito Repellent Candles!

We just received a shipment of one of our best products ever: all natural mosquito repellent candles! I know, I know - some of you are looking at snow. But here in Key West, mosquitoes are a part of life year-round. And when we find something new we get a little excited about it.

The candles are from our new candle line, Hillhouse Naturals (they also have a blog).

The candles are all natural with two different fragrance blends. One is wild mint, juniper, and tea tree, and the other is eucalyptus, mint leaf, and lemongrass. Note: No citronella! They smell fabulous in the shop without being lit, which is great, but we had to product test them for actual mosquito repellent abilities.

You know how we love outdoor dining. So Sunday night, we tested them at a dinner party in our loggia...

...and they worked great! The fragrance of the natural herbs was subtle and didn't overwhelm us as we dined.

And the container is reusable as a planter. All natural, no smelly citronella, reusable container, and THEY WORK! We're sold.
