New Painted Chests!

Some new painted chests have arrived at the shop.

Aren't they pretty? I love how they could work in any room. If I had the space, that green one would look great in my dining room!

Chicken City USA

If you haven’t been to Key West, then you may be surprised to know that it has a lot in common with third world nations… the island is overrun with chickens whose ancestors were survivors of the cock fighting parlors that were popular (and legal) during the early part of the 20th century. Here are two photos of chickens that were taken around the former shop on Margaret Street.

So, as you might expect, residents and tourists are fond of owning things that remind them of chickens. Last week, when Jo and Terry (they're my parents - if you're new here) were at the furniture market in Highpoint, they saw a number of “chicken items” for sale:

And after much deliberation (and pricing considerations), the following were selected for the shop:

LOVE that last one! So colorful.

Tune in tomorrow to see a couple of sea-inspired rugs that will be making an appearance in the shop soon!

First Thursday Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the Caroline Street Art & Design District First Thursday and we're excited to feature new items from artist, Suzanne Nicoll.

The whimsical picket fish have always been a favorite...

...and Suzanne has added several new designs to her collection. We are now carrying the colorful sea maidens...

...mermaid and seahorse silhouettes...

...and an adorable sea turtle:

If you or anyone you know is in the Key West area, please come visit for wine, company and of course, shopping!

As usual - we can ship, so feel free to call us at (305) 292-4004 for pricing information!

Star Quality

New to the shop: these great star mirrors.

A less ornate alternative to those starburst mirrors that don't seem to be going out of style anytime soon...(seriously are they really that fabulous? Ah - another topic for another post...)

We often forget to mention it - but everything in the shop can be shipped. If you see something of interest, e-mail us (stylekeywest at bellsouth dot net) for pricing information!

My New Favorite Chair

This should come as no surprise since I've already confessed to having a bit of a chair obsession...but I saw this and just had to order it for the shop.

Isn't it gorgeous? Who says wicker is for grandma's porch!

February's First Thursday and Annechovie "Unveiling"

As we mentioned last week, we're part of the Caroline Street Art & Design District. And last night was this month's First Thursday.

We decided to do a special display featuring our new paper and print designer, Anne Harwell of Annechovie. And needless to say, it was a huge success. Our customers raved over her lovely work and we couldn't have been more thrilled.

Here are a few photos we took:

It was a fun and exhausting night, and we're already coming up with ideas for next month. Come back on March 5th for another First Thursday recap!

More Bubbles...

Remember our shop mascot, Bubbles? Well we must have a thing for bubbles because we're currently crazy about these "bubble" lamps.

A customer favorite, the "aqua orb lamp" (as named by the supplier) sells out almost as quickly as we can get it in stock. I don't know about orbs...looks like bubbles to me. It also comes in floor lamp version.

It's so hard to get good shots of these on the fly. Much of their charm lies in how light fills the glass and makes them seem to glow from within. But these quick snaps we took yesterday represent their wonderful shapes.

A great way to add some interesting modern shapes and colors to a traditional room in need of some updating!

First Thursday in The Caroline St. Art & Design District

Two years ago, along with several other design related businesses nearby, we created the Caroline Street Art & Design District.

The community includes everything from art galleries to fine clothing boutiques to unique home furnishings shops - even a boutique coffee shop/art gallery.

What began as a few merchants on Caroline and Margaret Streets has evolved into a 2 block by 3 block square of wonderful shops, galleries, and eateries.

Last year Florida Travel & Life magazine featured the District as where "the best Key West Shopping is found."

On the first Thursday of each month, we host an evening "stroll" with each shop offering wine and goodies while shoppers browse. They then can grab a bite at one of the many restaurants in the area.

We're so proud to be a part of the District, and we take this monthly opportunity to display some of our shop favorites.

In honor of our newest line, Annechovie, next week we'll feature the Anne Harwell's lovely work. Having fallen in love with her chairs, I perused her Etsy shop, and we are now carrying her note cards and prints!

I'm just thrilled to carry this fabulous line - and from a Florida girl at that!

Come back next Friday for pictures of the upcoming First Thursday festivities. In the meantime, you can expect to see some posts on other District members.
