One Small Change: New Towels

After all of that work we put into our bathroom redo, I still felt like something was missing. Everything looked fresh and new and luxurious, but something was still off.

Then the other day, as I was looking at this shop display...

...it came to me! We needed new towels.

Okay - this may not be a life changing epiphany. But it's a bathroom changing one.

Previously, we had a very nice set of crisp white towels that theoretically work in any bath.

But by adding a little color...a sea glass shade of blue to be exact...my pretty new bathroom received yet another upgrade.

It's amazing what a big difference such a small change can make.

Feeling a little blah about one of your rooms? Think about updating your couch or bed with some colorful new pillows or throws. Revitalize your kitchen with bright curtains and dish towels. And yes - pretty linens can give a bathroom an unexpected face lift.

Little things really do make a difference.

One Small Change: Using Accent Paint for Impact

This Friday's One Small Change features paint. Probably the easiest way to make a statement in your home is with paint, and if you don't like it you can always paint over it. Everyone knows that painting an entire room can make a big change, but today we are going to consider little projects that probably won't take more than a weekend to complete.

Here are three examples of painting an accent wall. To make the most of the beautiful wainscoting, keep it a crisp white while adding color on the walls above.

We like the way the color sets the mood of the room with the peaceful blue in the bedroom, and the warm uplifting orange in the dining room.

This accent wall is actually a "headboard" created with paint and molding.

Here in Key West, porches are typically painted blue to confuse the mosquitoes!

The ceiling is considered to be the fifth wall of the room, so why paint it white, when you can add a mood changing color?

A calming blue...

A nature reflecting green...

A soft romantic pink...

Smaller areas like furniture or the interior of cabinets and shelves allow you to use rich, vibrant colors that would be overwhelming on a large surface.

This pretty little chair is a great entry accent.

A deep, rich indigo is a wonderful foil to pine.

This ordinary little bookshelf takes on a whole new personality with a bright splash of spring green.

And the apple green painted inside these kitchen cabinets add a pop of color and really shows off the white china.

Have a great weekend, and if we've inspired you to take on a painting project let us know.

One Small Change: Kitchen Faucets

If you can't afford to remodel a room or do a major renovation, sometimes one small change can make a world of difference. Each Friday, we will now feature "One Small Change" that will lift your spirits and give a fresh look to your space. Maybe even change your life!

Think about your kitchen faucet...does it annoy you with its inefficiency? Is the sprayer broken or outdated? Is it just plain ugly? Delta Faucets can be purchased online or at any home improvement store, and many are under $200. Just imagine filling your coffee pot each morning with a sleek and elegant faucet like one of these:

There are even faucets that can be turned on just by touching--even with with your elbow if your hands are dirty.

Now that's life changing in our book!
